The Steering Committee on Reforms chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has led to the development of a 10-year strategy for reforming Nigeria’s Public Service. The strategy is founded on four pillars each led by a named Agency. They are Improving the Governance and Institutional Environment led by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation; Improving the Socio-Economic Environment led by the Ministry of Budget and National Planning; Improving Public Financial Management led by the Ministry of Finance; and Improving Civil Service Administration led by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service.
BPSR is coordinating the holistic review of the strategy to ensure that it captures the aspirations of the current Administration. It has commenced organization of interactive sessions with Pillar leaders and stakeholders to ensure that the strategy is reviewed and updated. Pillar 1 review was done on 21st March 2016 while Pillar 11 will follow soon. The review will take into consideration priority objectives of government to strengthen security, reform governance and fight the menace of corruption. Pillar 1 was considered central in ensuring the need to mainstream the core values of the Public Service into the strategy.
After the review of all the pillars, a revised and updated National Strategy for Public Service Reforms will be presented to the Steering Committee on Reforms for consideration and forwarding to the Federal Executive Council.
